Fragile X Family Fun Day

May 17, 2003

On May 17th, Girl Scout Troop #    held a Fragile X Family Fun Day for the MD Fragile X Resource Group children with Fragile X and their siblings.  This was their project to fulfill their requirements to earn their Silver Award from the Girl Scouts.  Prior to the event, the Girl Scouts  researched Fragile X to learn about how it affects different individuals.  They then planned an outing for our kids.  They had an assortment of carnival games that they made themselves.  The children had fun fishing, playing in shaving cream (a great sensory event), riding scooters, "cooking"  soup by finding the words in the recipe and stirring them in the pot, an obstacle course, relaxing on the "beach", digging in the treasure chest for goodies, feeling different items, and others.  The event was held at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church in Millersville, Maryland.  There were 17 children represented and a good time was had by all.  The weather was cool, but you would have never known it from the kids... they were so busy running around having a good time.  The girl scouts did a FANTASTIC job!  Thanks girls!
